John Wayne Commemorative Cavalry Sword

This John Wayne Commemorative Cavalry Sword was designed to acknowledge the films that John Wayne made depicting a US Cavalry officer. The sword is 39" long and sits on a display frame 43" by 12". The backing of the frame is cloth in Cavalry blue colour.

The sword is made from tempered steel and has John Wayne on the front of the blade and Lest We Forget on the back. Lest We Forget was part of the sentiment on the "brand new silver pocket watch and chain" he was presented with as Captain Nathan Cutting Brittles by his troop on his retirement in She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. The handle is gold plated with ornate engraving and a gold sash.

This was manufactured and sold by the Franklin Mint in the early 1990's. It is not known if it was sold outside the USA.
