John Wayne Collectors Figurines, Dolls and Bears![]() John Wayne Stagecoach made by Franklin Mint. The display base measure 25" by 7", and the stagecoach stands 6½". Has 8 pieces of baggage, including one with JW on it and the Wells Fargo strongbox, and one large loop Winchester rifle and 3 shotguns. Over the decades there have been many collectible products of John Wayne made, and amongst the attractive items are the John Wayne figurines. These were made by a number of different manufacturers and as with all collectors items they were limited in numbers or production time, and of course their costs varied. There are many others not listed here most being single issues, but these are the main Collection sets issued by Bradford Exchange, Franklin Mint and Sideshow Collectibles. What is the value of these John Wayne figurines? Because we all collect different things the chances of them running out are reduced. These are marketing ploys used to make us rush out and buy the products. Other marketing ploys are that these items are an investment. Some are, but many are not. Some of the items may now sell for less than when they were first released; some have retained the same value; some do not sell at all, and some have appreciated in value. The Internet has opened up what was once a small market for specialist dealers who could demand high prices because there was nowhere that ordinary people could go to buy or advertise items for sale. Online auction sites have had a remarkable effect of the value of collectibles; what won't sell one day may sell another time. But things can change. So there is no definitive answer to the question. Last Updated: 17 July 2010 Franklin Mint Domed FigurinesThe figurines below were issued by the Franklin Mint in the late 1980's / early 1990's and are no longer available from them. They all had glass domes, which have been left out of the photographs so the figures themselves can be more easily seen. All were Limited Editions and all had a Certificate of Authenticity. It is believed twenty figurines were issued and it is the biggest single issue of such a collection. There were 18 western designs and 2 military designs. The titles below are as stated on the Certificate of Authenticy that came with each figurine. Although none were officially linked to any particular John Wayne film, members of the John Wayne Message Board have come up with possible films that they relate to. Figurine Titles For that reason I do not have the titles of several of these as I did not note them before putting them on display. If anyone can put a title to the appropriate figurine it will be of great help. Contact me HERE There is some speculation that Franklin Mint did not always send out the correct COA as two have been reported with titles that are different to mine. Undefeatable Spirit has been reported having the title Rugged Horseman; The first one shown here was initially issued with a COA giving it the title John Wayne. Later issues had the title changed to Long Arm Of The Law. The pose was also slightly different in the later issue, showing mostly in the right arm that is holding the rifle. The colouring was also lighter in the later issue. |
