John Wayne Unissued Set

This is a pre production proof of a set of mini plates, coins or chips that appears to have never gone into production.

Each of the items is about the size of a US Dollar, 1¾" diameter. The top two are portraits by Duke's wife Pilar Wayne. The other 4 are by artist Robert Simmons. They are mounted on card between two pieces of perspex.

On the reverse each item is the word PROTOTYPE stamped across it, and near the bottom is 1 of 2000

The information about this is lost in history, unless anyone can let me know. But it appears this was the pre production of a set of 2000 of these mini plates, coins or chips. The intention may have been to issue them singly, in pairs or as a set of 6. Who knows.
